RECOVERY & ADDICTION PROGRAM GROUPS

The L.I.F.E. Program. Building Emotional Resilience and Connection.

At Ambassadors of Compassion, we care deeply about individuals, families, and communities navigating recovery. Over 100,000 people across North America have participated in our programs designed to help individuals heal, rebuild, and move forward with strength and dignity. We don’t claim to have all the answers. But we do recognize a growing challenge: despite greater access to information than ever before, loneliness, emotional distress, and substance-use continue to rise.

Information alone doesn’t address the issue or break the cycle. The science of change shows that, in addition to relevant content, we need meaningful connection; and we need to take deliberate action, practical steps, to put the information into practice.

The Ambassadors of Compassion process is a structured pathway to healing; through meaningful content, compassionate connection, and shared experience.

The L.I.F.E. Program

The independently measured, evidence-based, plug-and-play L.I.F.E. program consists of  9-12 sessions of relevant content, multi-media delivery, facilitated small peer-group discussions, and guided journaling. This immersive program leads participants through the process of releasing unresolved hurt and pain, taking responsibility for their actions, understanding and managing the positive and negative influences in their lives, and overcoming the obstacles and negative experiences that hold them back. These principles are put into action in a peer-to-peer intervention where participants connect through real life conversations and empathetically hold each other accountable for making positive life decisions. The program helps to:

  • Support recovery
    • Rebuild identity
    • Strengthen emotional resilience
    • Restore purpose and self-worth

L.I.F.E. is an acronym for:

  • Labor – the power of setting goals and working to achieve them
  • Influence – understanding and managing the positive and negative influences in our lives
  • Forgiveness – the science of identifying and releasing unresolved hurt and pain
  • Experiences – turning negative experiences into motivation for positive action

Part of the magic of the program is that the content, and the peer group discussions, take their relevance from the group discussing them. That is why the results have been the positive regardless of the age-group, demographics, cultural, or socio-graphics of the participants.

A Culture of Belonging

At the heart of Ambassadors of Compassion is a simple but powerful belief: “If you breathe, you belong.”

  • No labels
  • No judgment
  • No barriers to entry

Participants are met with dignity and respect from the moment they enter the program. In recovery settings, where shame and isolation are common barriers, this culture of empathetic belonging is essential.

Why This Matters

  • 1 in 5 individuals experience mental health or substance use challenges each year
  • Approximately 20–25% will experience addiction in their lifetime
  • Recovery outcomes improve significantly with community, connection, and shared experience

Research shows improved mental health, stronger relationships, and increased engagement; driven not by information alone, but by consistent, compassionate relationships.

Great references, powerful questions. The videos before are great to start out the chapters.

Anonymous Program Participant

Personally I am not a very introspective person, but this book and course gave me a chance to become more introspective. So thank you for that!

Great program! Some of it felt repetitive, but perhaps that was intentional with the questions. The quotes were fun for my group.

Anonymous Program Participant

I enjoyed the classes and the videos were very interesting. The quotes were amazing. The program taught me how to be myself and stand up for myself and be a better person. Thank you for everything, Ambassadors of Compassion!

From Their LIFE Program Facilitator

Facilitating the Ambassadors of Compassion LIFE workshops with the students at Academy Farms was such a gift. I gained as much from the program as the men in our group. Together we learned, made and kept commitments to take responsibility for our own lives, and grew our connections. I thank them for welcoming me into their lives and for the opportunity Ambassadors of Compassion gave us to help better the world around us.

What Makes This Program Effective

The content is meaningful and relevant, and the guided journalling is essential, but the core are peer discussion groups. These ‘Circles of 6’ micro-communities create a consistent, safe place for participants to find their own voice and share things they may never have been able to express before. These micro-communities create a space where participants:

  • Feel seen and supported
  • Build accountability
  • Learn through shared experience
  • Regain identity and purpose
  • Practice empathy and compassion
  • Learn skills to support emotional and mental resilience internally, in relationships, in the workplace, and in life

The model creates: Connection. Consistency. Compassion.

Why It Works in Recovery Settings

Ambassadors of Compassion compliments and strengthens existing recovery tools by focusing on what sustains long-term change: human connection, accountability, and identity rebuilding.
